Chris
Wimmer Looking Forward to Racing in the Lone
Star State
Looking to get his rookie season back on track,
Chris Wimmer and MB Motorsports will journey
to Texas this weekend for the NASCAR Craftsman
Truck Series Silverado 350 at the Texas Motor
Speedway. Mechanical problems at Las Vegas
and California have been a source of consternation
for the Wisconsin native and his team, but
as always, Wimmer manages to maintain a positive
attitude.
“It’s been a challenging year,” said
Wimmer. “We haven’t had the finishes
we thought we would coming into the season,
but it’s been more bad luck than anything.
My team is solid; I’ve never seen a crew
work as hard as I have seen with this team
and (MB Motorsports owner/crew chief) Mike
(Mittler) is always right there with us. He
can be demanding some times, but he never asks
us to do something he wouldn’t do himself
and he’s always the most positive voice
in the garage.
“I’ve learned a lot from Mike
this season,” he continued, “and
it’s no wonder guys like Jamie (McMurray)
and Carl (Edwards) are doing as well as they
are now, considering they got their start from
this team.”
The respect at MB Motorsports goes both ways
as Mittler continues to praise Wimmer and his
driving abilities. “Believe me, the problems
we’ve seen this year have nothing to
do with our driver,” said the St. Louis
native. “We’ve had some bites from
the engine bug this year and had some issues
with setups, but when the truck is right, we’ve
seen Chris put on a great show.
“This is a driver who has always brought
the truck home in one piece this year,” continued
Mittler. “He’s been a fabricator’s
dream. As you’ve seen in the Truck Series,
there’s a lot of beating and banging
going on and for him to mix it up in this series
and be able to stay off the wall and off the
other trucks is a testament to how good this
kid is.”
MB Motorsports continues to actively pursue
new sponsors for the 2004 season in an effort
to run Wimmer in as many races as possible. “We’re
thankful for our existing sponsors, like Race
Fans for a Cure®, Dave Porter Truck Sales,
Enerpac, and Tanner Racing Products,” said
Mittler, “but we’d love to have
that one, big sponsor who would enable us to
run the rest of the season. We’ve got
a great team and a great driver and I know
we’d make a potential sponsor glad they
signed on with MB Motorsports.” Organizations
interested in a potential marketing partnership
with MB Motorsports should contact Bill Politsch
at 1-800-467-2464 or Brandon Mudd at 636-219-9676.
The Silverado 350 will be broadcast live
at the Texas Motor Speedway on the SPEED
Channel
at 2 p.m. EST and on the radio on MRN at
1:30 p.m. EST.
