Chris
Wimmer Prepares for Richmond with Memphis Test
On the heels of a strong run at the Bristol
Motor Speedway, Chris Wimmer and his MB Motorsports
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team is preparing
for the Kroger 200 at the Richmond International
Raceway Thursday night. Wimmer spent last week
testing at Memphis Motorsports Park to get
ready
for the three-quarter-mile short track.
“We haven’t had the best of luck
at the short tracks this year,” said
Wimmer, “but running a strong race at
Bristol has given us all the confidence to
have faith in our short-track program. We went
to Memphis last week and that helped a ton.
We were able to experiment with some setups
and get a lot of things figured out.
“Plus, this will be my second race in
a row where I’ll be racing the same weekend
as my brother, Scott, so that’s pretty
cool,” he continued. “My parents
have been at all my races this year, but it’s
always great to be able to spend time with
Scott and (wife) Jodi as well.”
Although Bristol and Richmond are short-tracks,
that is where the similarities end, as Bristol
is a high-banked concrete oval, Richmond is
a D-shaped flat, asphalt track. Wimmer said
his American Speed Association (ASA) experience
should come in handy for this race.
“A lot of the short tracks I ran in
ASA tended to be flat, so hopefully, that experience
will help Thursday night.”
MB Motorsports owner/crew chief Mike Mittler
is also looking forward to Richmond Thursday
night. “I think we’re as prepared
for this race as we’ve been this year,” said
the St. Louis native. “We may not have
the finishing spot to show for it, but Chris
ran a helluva race at Bristol and we expect
he’ll do the same at Richmond.”
The Kroger 200 at Richmond International Raceway
will be presented live on SPEED Channel at
8:30 p.m. local time and on radio by MRN at
7:30 p.m. local time.
