Chris
Wimmer Continues to Race Smart with 21st-Place
Finish at Kentucky
SPARTA, KY – MB Motorsports driver,
Chris Wimmer, continues to impress with his
smart driving and hard-charging attitude, finishing
21st Saturday night at the Kentucky Speedway
during the Built Ford Tough 225 Presented by
the Cincinnati Area Ford Dealers. Despite starting
32nd due to qualifying being rained out for
the second-consecutive week, Wimmer was able
to race impressively on a very green track
and picked up 11 spots by the end of the race.
“This has been a very long week for
the entire team,” said Wimmer. “We
worked day and night building a brand-new truck
to bring here and the work paid off. The truck
handled almost perfectly in the corners. With
the rain, we were concerned about the handling,
but my guys put a good truck under me.
“It was a long night,” he continued, “with
the rain delay and the heat and humidity, but
we were able to run some pretty consistent
times and stay out of trouble. Obviously, we
wanted to do better than 21st, but given the
condition of the track and having to start
from the back, we’ll take it.”
Mike Mittler, owner and crew chief for the
#63 Dave Porter Truck Sales Ford, was pleased
not only with Wimmer’s performance on
the truck, but his crew’s performance
in the shop the week prior. “My guys
really busted their butts this past week,” he
said. “I couldn’t ask for a more
loyal, dedicated team. They literally went
without food and sleep to make sure the truck
was done in time…they definitely went
beyond the call for the sake of the team. And
I include Chris in there, too. He was supposed
to do some appearances and refused to go because
he felt his place was with the team, working
on the truck. He’s a team player and
we’re going to have a lot of success
with him behind the wheel.”
Wimmer will take a well-deserved break this
week as he returns to his native Wisconsin
to participate in the 25th Annual Miller Lite
Slinger Nationals in Slinger, Wis. The race
pits local talent against some of the finest
drivers in NASCAR, including 2003 Nextel Cup
Champion, Matt Kenseth, Scott Wimmer, Kyle
Busch, Dick Trickle, and defending race champion,
Rich Bickle.
“I’m really looking forward to
this race. It’ll be nice to see my brother
again and be even nicer to beat him on the
track,” said the younger Wimmer with
a grin. “I ran here last year and didn’t
do so well, but I’ll be doing a lot of
testing, both for my car and Scott’s
Tuesday afternoon, so I should have enough
seat time.”
The next race for Wimmer and MB Motorsports
will be the team’s home track, Gateway
International Raceway, in Madison, Ill. The
Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers Ram Tough 200
will be carried live on SPEED Channel at 7
p.m. local time and on MRN Radio live at 6:30
p.m. local time.
