Wimmer Plans to Make His Mark in Memphis
With a strong truck and a confident crew,
MB Motorsports driver Chris Wimmer is ready
to make his mark on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck
Series. After a DNQ in Martinsville and a DNF
in Mansfield, Wimmer has no plans to do any “Walking
in Memphis” during the O’Reilly
200, Saturday, June 19th.
“Memphis is where our schedule gets
busy,” said Wimmer. “This is the
first of several races we’re running
this summer, so it’s important for us
to get a good finish to get our summer rolling
on the right track.
“I haven’t raced (at Memphis Motorsports
Park), but my brother, Scott, did when he was
in the Busch Series, and he’s given me
some great advice on what to look for,” he
continued. “It’s a great track
and we look forward to getting out there and
showing our fans and our sponsors what we can
do.”
Memphis will mark Wimmer’s third NCTS
starting attempt this season. While the MB
Motorsports team may not have the finishes
to show for it, team owner/crew chief Mike
Mittler said he feels good about his team and
his driver.
“I know it sounds strange,” said
Mittler, a 10-year veteran of the Truck Series, “but
we left Mansfield feeling pretty good about
ourselves. The oil leak and subsequent problems
were a fluke that could happen to anyone and
when Chris was on the track, we were running
lap times comparable to the leaders. Nobody’s
hanging their head in this shop…we know
what we’re capable of, but we also know
things tend to happen in racing that can’t
be foreseen. Chris is a helluva driver and
the world is going to see that in Memphis.”
Race Fans for a Cure® will be onboard
with Wimmer and MB Motorsports during the O’Reilly
200, after an announcement this week that the
Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation’s
racing initiative would be a sponsor for the
team the remainder of the 2004 NCTS season.
“We’re thrilled to have them with
us,” said Wimmer. “Everyone knows
how important the Komen Foundation and Race
Fans for a Cure® is to MB Motorsports,
with (Mittler’s wife) Beverly being a
breast-cancer survivor. Hopefully, we can do
a lot of positive things for Komen this year
and continue their mission of fighting this
disease.”
MB Motorsports continues to actively pursue
new sponsors for the 2004 season in an effort
to run Wimmer in as many races as possible. “We’re
thankful for our existing sponsors, like Race
Fans for a Cure®, Dave Porter Truck Sales,
Enerpac, and Tanner Racing Products,” said
Mittler, “but we’d love to have
that one, big sponsor who would enable us to
run the rest of the season. We’ve got
a great team and a great driver and I know
we’d make a potential sponsor glad they
signed on with MB Motorsports.” Organizations
interested in a potential marketing partnership
with MB Motorsports should contact Bill Politsch
at 1-800-467-2464 or Brandon Mudd at 636-219-9676.
The O’Reilly 200 will be aired live
from Memphis Motorsports Park starting at 2:30
p.m. EST on MRN Radio and 3 p.m. EST on SPEED.
