Carl Edwards and #63 Team Shooting For A High Roll At Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Team morale at MB Motorsports is very high heading into the “Silverado 350K” NASCAR Craftsman Truck race this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. After all Carl Edwards will be driving the #63 Ford Truck and momentum has been moving forward the second half of the 2002 season.

Carl Edwards and the #63 Ford Truck team have been on a roll since getting together in late June. They have run 6 NASCAR Craftsman Truck races averaging an 11th place starting position by qualifying no less than 16th, and a team best 5th at IRP. Carl has been able to run with the leaders in the top-10 most of the time, completing 87% of the laps in the 6 races.  Although the 20th place finishing average doesn’t reflect the strong runs, they did accomplish an 8th place finish at Kansas, Carl’s first super speedway race and the team’s best finish to date.

Carl Edwards is on a high of his own. On September 27, 2002, Carl became the national champion of the Baby Grand Stock Car Association. Carl has dominated the Baby Grand Stock Car series this year, winning 22 BGSC races, including 5 of 7 nationally sanctioned events. At many of the Baby Grand races he has set fast qualifying time, won the heat race and won the feature, as he did September 27 at the Las Vegas asphalt short track to claim the national title.

"Team morale is high and I'm pumped," commented Carl Edwards. "This will be my first time on the 1.5 mile Las Vegas track, but it should be a lot of fun. We have run well at Kansas, Kentucky, and Texas, which are similar tracks to Las Vegas. This team has had good runs at Las Vegas in the past, and we'll be running the same truck that has done well for us at the other speedway tracks this year."

"After the Texas race, we posted a sign in the shop that says "Win In Vegas", "stated Mike Mittler, owner and crew chief. "The guys have worked hard to make it happen in Vegas. We have built a new engine and have completely gone over the truck since Texas. We are hungry for a win and feel we have a good chance on the Vegas track."

The “Silverado 350K” will be run at 2:00 PM (pacific time) Sunday, October 13, 2002 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The race will be broadcast live on ESPN television and MRN radio.
