#63 NASCAR Truck Team Dedicates Milwaukee
Race To St. Louis Cardinals Jack Buck and Darryl Kile
The MB Motorsports #63 NASCAR Craftsman
Truck, driven by rookie Carl Edwards, will carry on their truck a memorial to
the recently fallen members of the St. Louis Cardinals, announcer Jack Buck, and
pitcher, Darryl Kile. The memorial will be displayed on the quarter panels
during the “GNC Live Well 200” NASCAR Craftsman Truck race this weekend at the
historic Milwaukee Mile.
MB Motorsports is the only NASCAR based team
in the St. Louis area and understands the loss that the Cardinal team and family
members are going through. Two former MB Motorsports drivers, Kenny Irwin Jr.
and Tony Roper, drove their first NASCAR race in the Mike Mittler owned Ford
Truck. Both drivers tragically died on the racetrack in 2000. Kenny Irwin Jr.
was fatally injured in a Winston Cup car at New Hampshire Speedway. Tony Roper
lost his life driving the #26 Mittler Brothers NASCAR Craftsman Truck at Texas
Motor Speedway.
"We certainly know what a terrible loss it
is to the team and family members," commented owner and crew chief, Mike
Mittler. "We want to offer our sympathy to the family and team. We will
dedicate the Milwaukee NASCAR Craftsman Truck race this weekend to Jack Buck and
Darryl Kile."
"On the positive side," continued Mike
Mittler, "we are excited about the Milwaukee race. Our driver, Carl Edwards, who
drove his first NASCAR race last weekend in Memphis, did an outstanding job for
us. Milwaukee has always been a favorite track for us. We have raced at the
historic flat-mile track since the late 70's, when helping Rusty Wallace. The
track has been pretty good to us over the years."
"I'm looking forward to taking the next step
and running at a bigger track," stated Carl Edwards. "It will be interesting to
run on the flat Milwaukee Mile. It will help me gain additional chassis setup
experience. I have raced Silver Crown cars at Phoenix, which is a somewhat
similar flat track."
"This #63 Ford team is awesome, "continued
Carl. "I've never been in a situation before where I just have to drive and not
work on the car or truck also. These guys work so hard, it is just neat to be
part of the team. They gave me a good truck at Memphis and made my job easy I'm
sure we will have have a good truck at Milwaukee also."
The “GNC Live Well 200” NASCAR Craftsman
Truck race will be broadcast live on ESPN television and MRN radio. The race is
Saturday, June 29, 2002 at 1:30 PM (central time).
