Fourth Consecutive Successful Weekend for MB Motorsports and Driver Carl Edwards at Kentucky Speedway

It was another great start to the race weekend for the MB Motorsports #63 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team and their new driver, Carl Edwards.  Carrying momentum from good runs the last three weeks, Carl quickly adjusted to the 1.5 mile Kentucky Speedway. He was fifth fastest in practice and qualified in the 8th starting position for the race. However, during the race the momentum was slowed slightly when a cut tire took them out of the lead lap. The team worked hard and came home with an 18th place finish in Saturday night’s Kroger 225.

Driving in only his 4th NASCAR race, Carl again showed why he’s turning a lot of heads in the series, by putting the #63 on the starting grid in 8th place.  It was the second best starting position for MB Motorsports in their 8-year history.

As the sun set at Kentucky Speedway Saturday night and the green flag dropped on the race, the team looked forward to another solid run.  Carl didn’t hesitate to start moving up through the field.  He gained two spots on the first lap alone and moved up to the top 5 a couple laps later.

On lap 45, Carl brought the truck down pit road for service during the second caution of the race. The team had a miscommunication while changing 4 tires and adding fuel, sending Carl back on the track in 13th position, but still on the lead lap.

On lap 70, as Carl was working his way back through traffic, the #63 Ford got together with a lapped truck. The right front tire immediately went flat when the valve stem was sheared off during the contact. Due to the time it took to get back to the pits, the #63 lost a lap and fell back to 20th position.

The team was able to stay out of trouble the rest of the night, finishing in 18th place.

Despite the trouble, the team remained upbeat afterward.

"This #63 crew is awesome", commented Carl Edwards. "We certainly had a top-10 truck tonight.  It ran and handled great.  These guys make my job easy. Unfortunately we made contact with another truck and cut the right front tire down. We were lucky the tire didn't do any damage to the truck when it came apart."

"They did great at getting me back out there so quickly," continued Carl. "We are happy with our finish tonight, considering the obstacles we had to overcome.  Running in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is cool. I'm having lots of fun."

Owner and crew chief Mike Mittler was just as positive.  “Carl certainly knows how to get the most out of the truck.  We had our right front tire go flat half way through the race after contact with another truck that took us out of the lead lap. Goodyear brought a great tire here tonight. We ran the left side tires the last 115 laps of the race and the right side tires 80 laps. It was a good weekend for us. We ‘re happy with the 18th place finish.”

Associate sponsorship for the race was provided by Blazin’ Pits, a 5-foot long, portable, cooking pit, excellent for company barbecues, church picnics, parties and catering.  See our website www.blazinpits.com or call 1-800-467-2464 for additional information.

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series heads to New Hampshire next weekend, but the #63 MB Motorsports team will not return to action until Friday, August 2 at Indianapolis Raceway Park.  In addition to running the NCTS race on Friday, Carl will drive in the 100-lap Silver Crown race at IRP on Thursday, August 1.
